Erica Rodeheaver said she and her husband, Russell, owners of Casteel's Store and Dairy King in Hazleton, W.V., had an agreed-upon routine to follow in case their store was ever robbed. They followed that plan when the alarm was tripped at 12:42 a.m. one Wednesday. "My husband checked the back door, and it was secure," said Rodeheaver. "He went to the kitchen door and it was ajar just a little bit." She illuminated the outside of the building with the headlights on her Explorer while her husband continued to check windows. The back door opened slightly, noted Rodeheaver, and it was then she noticed the robbers inside. She called out to her husband, who came around the back holding a shotgun. He told the intruders to come out of the building and sit down. Russell Rodeheaver held the pair, identified as David Elvis Dalton Jr., and Ray Funk, until police took them into custody, charging them with breaking and entering. (The Dominion Post, Morgantown. A Shop Rite clerk Abdrab Ashishi was preparing to close the convenience store for the night when a man dressed in black and wearing a white Halloween mask moved behind the counter. The masquerader, later identified as career criminal David Billups, pointed what appeared to be a gun at Ashishi, who retrieved a handgun and fired several shots at Billups, killing him. Hamilton County prosecutor Mike Alien commented that Ashishi was within his rights. "He did what he had the legal right to do: He got his weapon and fired," said Alien. Three people in a black Cadillac pulled into the Fuel-N-Go in Coburg, Ore., about 11:35 p.m. One man got out of the vehicle and entered the convenience store. Motioning as though he had a gun in his sweatshirt, he demanded money from the store clerk, who gave him about $200 in cash. Apparently dissatisfied, the robber threatened to kill her. The clerk then drew her own gun, and the man ran out to the parking lot where he fought with a male attendant. Meanwhile, the clerk followed the thug outside and, when he motioned again to indicate he was armed, she fired a shot that blew out the Cadillac's back window. The robber then jumped into the car, and the threesome took off as remnants of their ill-gotten gains floated through the air. Two men and a woman surrendered to a police canine unit soon after. Knives were seized during their arrest, and the three faced first-degree robbery charges, (The Register-Guard, Eugene, OR, 06/25/04)
A man attempting to carjack a Cadillac DeVille from a gas station was shot and killed by the car owner. Brian Dean told DeKalb County, Ga., police that when he stopped at a gas station on Glenwood Road about 3 a.m., an armed man approached and attempted to steal his car. Dean drew his own gun and shot the would-be carjacker, later identified as Banarrek Von Clayton, in the leg. Von Clayton managed to drive a short distance in the Cadillac, but succumbed to his wounds and crashed into a utility pole a few feet away. (The Atlanta journal- Constitution, Atlanta, GA, 06/21/04)
Samuel "Lucky" Parker didn't live up to his name when he was shot and killed during a store robbery-his second of the night. Parker had robbed a Texaco station just a half hour before entering the Sunrise Mart. Near closing time, Tamer Abdulwahab and his cousin, Abdulwahab Zeidan, were standing at the counter. Parker entered wearing dark clothing, a face mask and a single glove. Abdulwahab thought it was some sort of prank until the masked man pulled a gun, aimed it at his cousin and demanded money. Abdulwahab slipped out of sight long enough to draw his own gun and point it at Parker. Zeidan had been frozen behind the register, but when Parker cocked his gun, Zeidan slipped and fell. Parker then fired several shots, which hit the cash register just above Zeidan's head. Abdulwahab fired at Parker, striking him twice. Realizing his luck had run out, Parker fled the store. Authorities later found his body in a nearby ditch. Neither cousin was injured, and when police recovered Parker's pistol, they found it had jammed after he fired five rounds. "He was shooting at my cousin, my blood," said Abdulwahab. "We are lucky to be here." (The Town Talk, Alexandria, LA, 06/21/04)
A Bergen, N.Y., homeowner returned to his house around 10 a.m. to discover two men and a woman in the process of burglarizing his home. The resident drew a handgun on the trio. When the men attempted to escape in a van, the homeowner punched out one of its windows. One of the men then threw gasoline at him from a can and the men took off. The homeowner continued to hold the woman at gunpoint until police arrived. Police later arrested the two men, and all three suspects were charged with burglary. If President George W. Bush is driven out of office-or if The Senate and House change hands next year-two men will claim the credit. And they will stand firmly in position to change the cultural destiny of America and demand the ideological spoils of victory-spoils that will include a declaration of war against those of us who believe in the Second Amendment. If you think those two figures are Senators John Kerry and John Edwards, you're wrong. For gun owners, the Kerry/Edwards match-up couldn't be worse, but the stealth power behind them is far more insidious and lethal to the future of American liberties. Don't look at Kerry and Edwards; look through them-and you will see political manipulators: globalist billionaire George Soros and agitprop filmmaker Michael Moore. With only short months to go until the election, Soros and Moore are already acting like kingmakers. Arguably violating new Federal campaign laws-which his special interest money bought and paid for-Soros has dumped tens of millions from his personal fortune and leveraged more than $100 million from other radical billionaires into a shadowy political machine of enormous proportion. All elements of that machine-from MoveOn.org, which claims to be immune from draconian campaign laws blacking out issue advertising before elections, to Americans Coming Together (ACT), which uses huge questionable "soft money" donations to seek out new voters, to a half dozen other closely guarded groups-are controlled by a handful of far-left political operators. Among Soros' goals is a global U.N. gun ban, which fits in with his larger plan to diminish, weaken and subjugate the United States as a world player, to erode our sovereignty, and to domestically erase the dominant traditional values of the American people. While parts of the Soros Billionaire Club's machine are highly visible, the larger campaign is on the ground, or perhaps more aptly, underground. In a recent puff piece on Americans Coming Together, the Washington Post predicted the Soros effort would register millions of voters. So what is the payoff? The director of ACT, a former organizer for the AFL-CIO and the Democratic National Committee, told the Post: "[T]here are two kinds of donors-access donors and ideological donors. Our donors are ideological ... all we can give them is the change they want, and that's all they want." (emphasis added.) That means your Second Amendment Freedom-your guns. Remember, George Soros bankrolls the Million Mom March, and he ponies up the money for the predatory lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearm industry. If Soros buys the White House, you can count on an ideological payoff. And Soros most likely won't stop there; he will buy himself a U.S. Supreme Court, stacked with anti-gun justices who can rule against our rights for a lifetime. The Soros nationwide voter registration targets Michael Moore's angry, undiscerning, fan club. Moore, who tells foreign audiences that Americans are "the dumbest people on the planet," is inciting a hate-America, hate-George Bush mob with his film, "Fahrenheit 9/11." And that mob is being harnessed into a one-time voting block-to be further inflamed by a nationwide 500,000 DVD distribution by the Democratic National Committee in the weeks before the election. There is only one force in America strong enough to stop them-the membership of the NRA and our supporters. But we must be as dedicated and organized and aggressive as the Soros/Moore/Kerry/Edwards machine. For starters, we have a chance to counter Michael Moore's lies. Now, there is a new book, written by two remarkably tenacious individuals, David T. Hardy and Jason Clark. Titled "Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man," the book accurately dissects and exposes Moore's outright lies, his deceptions and his mass manipulation in his written work and films. Their analysis of Moore's anti-gun-rights film diatribe "Bowling for Columbine" is especially insightful. Remarkably, the book is put out by HarperCollins, which published Moore's first book, "Stupid White Men." and the two books are displayed side by side in bookstores. Buying the Dave Hardy-Jason Clark book not only provides gun owners with the truth about Moore, it is a measurable act of defiance against everything Moore represents. I urge you to buy it. Get your friends to buy it. Put this book on the nation's bestseller list. Bury Michael Moore's lies by telling the truth. There is an equal act of defiance we must do to beat the gun-ban crowd. We must vote. And we must get our friends and neighbors to register and vote. Make yourself responsible for getting five or 10 voters to the polls. We can reelect George W Bush and we can elect a Second Amendment-safe Senate and House. But only if we mobilize, right now, today. |
Beware Anti-Gun Wolves Wrapped in Environmentalist Sheep's Clothing. You cannot hunt if there is no game. You cannot hunt if physical access to hunting areas is made extremely difficult or impossible, if guns are severely restricted, if the rules are too complicated or the fees to hunt too high. At the end of the day these public policies are enacted and manipulated by elected officials and people appointed by elected officials. Hunting, protecting game and preserving the right to own a gun are not just theoretical or academic issues. In the real and practical world in which we live, preserving our rights comes down to our votes for candidates and, if they are elected, their votes as our representatives. It is critical that none of us fall prey to the anti-gun wolves masquerading as environmentalists who seek to deny our firearm freedom and our right to hunt. A well-organized and well-financed campaign is being waged in America to peel off gun owners and hunters from their traditional political allies. The campaign was formalized by "Americans for Gun Safety"-the leading anti-gun outfit. Their strategy is called "Taking back the Second Amendment-a seven-step blueprint for Democrats to promote responsibility and win the gun vote." It amounts to hoodwinking hunters and other gun owners into voting for gun-ban candidates by tampering with the language of campaigns. It urges anti-gun candidates to get a hunting license, express support for hunting and form sportsmen's groups. The strategy is to fool hunters into thinking anti-gun and anti-hunting candidates are no threat. It advises anti-gun candidates to use words such as, "preserve the environment to protect fish and wildlife, conservation, safety, habitat"- use those words, instead of-gun control. At the June 2004 Outdoor Writers Association of America conference in Spokane, Wash., the Sierra Club weighed in with its part of the campaign to get gun owners and hunters to vote for gun-ban candidates. A slick brochure entitled "Natural Allies" was placed on every table. It viciously attacked NRA Board member Rep. Don Young of Alaska. It attacked the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. It attacked Sen. Conrad Burns of Montana and NRA Board member Sen. Larry Craig from Idaho. All have outstanding records in support of hunting and the Second Amendment and are rated "A" by NRA. The substance of the Sierra Club material is strangely similar to the "Americans for Gun Safety" program. It implies that gun owners and hunters must partner with the Sierra Club and similar groups in its "Natural Allies" program. A quick review of the Sierra Club website shows they give the highest ratings and endorsements to senators and congressmen who want to ban guns and ammunition- including those used specifically for hunting. For example, the Sierra Club endorses Frank Lautenberg, Jack Reed, Carolyn McCarthy and Jerrold Nadler. They support John Kerry and Ted Kennedy. All want to ban our guns and sue the gun manufacturers out of existence. I would challenge anyone to take the Sierra Club endorsements in the past three general elections and contemplate what hunting and gun ownership would be like if they had all been elected. There would be no guns, and their favored Dennis Kucinich would be the Secretary of Animal Rights. The proposition (implicit in "Natural Allies") that we should abandon our "A" rated candidates in favor of those rated "F" would be suicide for hunters and gun owners. It would mean that, at a minimum, hunters and gun owners would be totally neutralized- exactly what they want! The Sierra Club expects hunters to be "Natural Allies" against fanners and ranchers. I reject this nonsense. The truth is that the generosity of farmers and ranchers has been one of the cornerstones of hunting for generations. Organizations such as the Farm Bureau and the Cattlemen's Association have long been on record in support of the Second Amendment, and their members have been dedicated hunters, allowing millions of Americans to hunt on their property. I think gun owners will find far better natural allies among farmers and ranchers than by aligning with the PETA crowd. Of course there will be conflicts over the use of land and, where those in control are bad stewards, we will criticize. Physical access to hunting areas is an important issue. Obviously hunting can be banned if access is made so difficult that hunters cannot reach game. No one has advocated creating city-like grids where everyone can chase game with vehicles. But it might surprise elitists to know that there are quite a few people who would like to hunt. The elitist snobs describe hunters seeking access to lands as folks who "simply have more invested in their beer bellies than their boots." I don't agree with the description, but I do know that kind of contempt for the average hunter is wrong. Even the very anti-gun John Kerry has donned the sheep's clothing. In one of the most brazen flip-flops in political history, Kerry claims to be pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment and a great hunter. His actual voting record is totally anti-gun. When Kerry returned from campaigning in 2004 for his first vote, that vote was to ban guns by exposing the gun manufacturers to lawsuits specifically cooked up to put the manufacturers out of business. No gun companies-no guns! Kerry shows up at trap and skeet clubs to have his picture taken but has voted overwhelmingly against owning guns. John Kerry doesn't have enough publicity stunts to cover his "F"-rated voting record. NRA members know the truth about the real anti-gun John Kerry and all the sheep's wool in the world cannot hide his record from our public scrutiny. |
